A bridgehead to prehistoric times

Follow in the footsteps of a world-famous archaeological site and experience prehistoric life.

The educational trail, which aims to popularize and familiarize visitors with the ar chaeologically significant site of Předmostí, starts at the Předmostí housing estate by the sculpture Probe into Prehistory. There is a parking lot and public transport stops near the starting point. The trail goes over the Čekyňský Hill, which has an elevation of about 85 m. The trail is marked with blue signs, has easy terrain and is suitable mainly for pedestrians. The route is 8.2 km long.

1. Probe into the Prehistory - the nature trail starts near the cemetery in Předmostí at the sculpture called Probe into the Prehistory. The guide Pražínka will introduce herself and take you on a short visit to the modern history of Předmostí - from the 15th century to the present day.
2. Mammoth Hunters Memorial - this stop will lead you to the first of the main points of the entire trail, which is the Mammoth Hunters Memorial. You can see the results of the latest archaeological excavations, and learn about the history of the Skalka archaeological site.
3. Skalka - at the third stop, formerly known as the famous Chromecek's Garden, you will now find a playground with a "wandering boulder". You will learn that the errant boulder is not actually errant at all, because the glacier never encroached on these sites, and the boulder is a remnant of a once present limestone homole, i.e. Skalka.
4. Thehillfort - tools of Homo sapiens neanderthalensis from 100,000-120,000 years ago have been found on top of the hillfort, and it is shrouded in many legends.
5.
6. Prerov Gorge - this stop is dedicated to the history of local motor racing, and you'll have a great view of the track.
7. Tom the Mammoth - on the way to the Forebridge you'll come across a young mammoth named Tom, watching the valley for the rest of the herd. This stop is considered one of the most beautiful places in the Pretoria countryside.
8. On Popovicky Hill - What mammoth hunters didn't see - Čekyňský Hill is the highest point of the whole trail and also of Přerov itself (305 m above sea level). If you go here in good weather, you can see as far as Svatý Kopeček. As you continue along the trail, don't forget to turn right towards Přerov onto the dirt road - it will lead you to the natural monument on Popovický Hill, where a rare warm-loving steppe flower grows and from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole of Přerov and its surroundings.
9. School Museum - on the way from Čekyňský hill you will go past Popovice back to the school, where you will find the school museum of mammoth hunters. Its main programme aims to introduce schoolchildren and the public in a simple way to the oldest history of the region, which is represented by the mammoth hunters of 26,000 BC.

Mammoth Hunters' Mass Grave - an information board is located at the entrance to the area with the wandering boulder, opposite the Mammoth Hunters' Memorial on the estate in the Forebridge. In these places, in 1894, a world exceptional find was discovered by the explorer K. J. Mašek - a mass grave of a population of mammoth hunters with twenty human skeletons. Its upper level is marked on the tree trunk next to the information board.
