Olomouc's neo-Gothic cathedral is often compared to St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. The Olomouc one, however, has a much richer history...
St. Wenceslas Cathedral in Olomouc is one of its dominants and a definite must on your travel bucket list when visiting this city. The cathedral boasts not only its artistic workmanship, but also the second tallest church tower in the Czech Republic and the largest bell in Moravia, weighing 8 tons. On the neo-Gothic altar is a reliquary with the relics of St. John Sarkander, who was imprisoned and martyred in Olomouc. In the crypt, the heart of Archbishop and Austrian Archduke Rudolf Jan, the upper floor is open to the public. We highly recommend a visit to the neighbouring Archdiocesan Museum located in the authentic historical premises of a national cultural monument, offering an exceptional art exhibition.
