Tovačov Chateau
The area around Tovačov is famous for its lakes and ponds. And do you know where the best view of them is from? From the 96 m high castle tower! According to legend, the chateau was founded in the 11th century as a hunting manor and in the 14th century it began its Renaissance transformation into its present form. In the left wing of the castle, you will discover a replica of the staircase of the Vienna Opera House and the Knights' and Court Rooms are also worth seeing. The chateau is shrouded in the mysterious legend of the Black Lady, who appears from time to time and searches for her children in the Black Garden. The site is a former chateau cemetery and there is an unexplored crypt at a depth of around 8 metres. It is said that the Black Lady is Dona Maxmiliana Manriquez de Lara, the wife of the castle's former lord, Vratislav of Pernštejn. The marriage is said to have produced 22 children, but only 7 of them survived to adulthood.
