What to tasteYou probably expect us to recommend you to taste "Tvarůžky" cheese and beer in Olomouc. Well, sure... but there is much more! Get ready for lavender-scented food and drink, Michelin chef's tastes and fine dining. It smells like sh*t, but it`s deliciousYou definitely won't want to miss Olomouc`s Upper Square (Horní náměstí) during your visit to the city (because you simply must have a photo with the UNESCO monument, in front of the astronomical clock and one with the fountain). If you stand in the right place, you'll probably think "What the f*ck is that smell?". Yeah, that`s our Olomouc 'Tvarůžky' cheese. And you're standing right in front of their shop. 'Tvarůžky' cheese in various forms can be found here - classic, with paprika, chilli, cumin, onion, pickled or used in spreads. Definitely don't judge them by smell alone and take (at least) 1 pack with you. How to eat 'Tvarůžky' cheese?Ideally, let the 'Tvarůžky' cheese rest at room temperature for a while. In the meantime, chop your onions and bread. Brush the bread with a little butter, stack the 'Tvarůžky' cheese and sprinkle with the onions. Now you can get on with it and enjoy! Oh wait...you'll bring the flavour of the tvarůžky to perfection when you wash it down with a nice chilled beer (preferably from the TVARG brewery, so you get a nice finish). To maximize the taste experience, go for homemade rye bread at Eatery & Bakery and for a piece of butter at Gran Moravia (you can find it next to the tvarůžky shop on Horní náměstí). The most distinctive flavour and aroma are found in properly ripened 'Tvarůžky' cheese - slightly oily, with an orange-yellow to brownish-orange colour. However, some people prefer the fresher and less aromatic ones, which can be recognised by their golden yellow colour and the so-called curd heart (best detected in classic tvarůžky rounds). Even if you eat a whole packet of 'Tvarůžky' cheese, you will have no regrets. By today`s standards, this is literally a fitness product. In 100 g they contain 129 kcal, 28 g of protein (!!!) and only 3 g of carbohydrates and 0.5 g of fat. But maybe you don't have the opportunity to prepare 'Tvarůžky' cheese yourself, and maybe you don't even want to... Never mind, 'Tvarůžky' is on the menu of about every single restaurant in Olomouc. We recommend you to contact Long Story Short and pre-order a tasting of tvarůžky in 3 different ways - on bread, fried and in the form of dessert. Or head to Morgan`s restaurant for a delicious 'Tvarůžky' tartare with toast. Lavender doesn't just belong in beauty products...it tastes great tooIf you don't like the smell of 'Tvarůžky' cheese, you'll love lavender! Stop by the Lavender Bistro on Horní náměstí (next to the 'Tvarůžky' cheese shop). Here you can buy dried lavender that will make your room smell nice, soaps, candles, liqueurs, wine, syrups, but also lavender cookies, chocolate, homemade desserts and much more. Have you ever tried lavender beer? Then don't miss it! Maybe the first sip will seem a bit...strange? But believe us, you'll like it more and more with every time you try it. The organic lavender from which the products are processed does not come from French Provence, but from the family Lavender farm in Bezděkov near Úsov. Feel free to arrange a tour of the farm, cut your own lavender flower and take some IG photos in the blooming field. It is even possible to enjoy a relaxing massage or a romantic tasting menu right in the middle of the lavender field. Michelin chef opened a bistro in OlomoucStop in for breakfast, lunch or a snack at Bistro Paulus in the Envelopa Office Centre. Chef Roman Paulus is behind the concept of a modern canteen that combines classic Czech cuisine with flavours from around the world. From Monday to Friday, you can get a savoury and sweet breakfast menu, two kinds of soups, several dishes and salads for lunch and all kinds of snacks, sandwiches, desserts and coffee until 4:30 pm. And all this at very affordable prices! In 2012, Roman Paulus became the first Czech chef to win a Michelin star, which he then defended five more times for the Prague restaurant Alcron. For a more intimate setting and an equally great lunch (or breakfast), head to Šemberova Street in the city centre - Bistro Nro 66. You'll know you're in the right place by one alien on the roof and another just outside the entrance. The Bistro is the younger brother of the popular cruise restaurant Bělecký Mlýn, which is renowned for its cuisine drawing on its own ingredients. Meat from their own farms and many other homemade products are also served at Bistro Nro 66. Olomouc`s high gastronomy is dominated by the Entrée restaurant, where the well-known chef Přemek Forejt is the head chef. Přemek is also one of the judges of the MasterChef Czech Republic show, where he "grills" amateur chefs. In the living garden you can taste Přemek`s gastronomic parades that will literally shoot you out of your shorts. Don't hesitate to book a table at the best restaurant in Olomouc, which lacks a Michelin star just because it`s not in Prague ( yeah, we mean it)! Head to Eatery & Bakery for a fancy lunch menu or a shared-plate dinner. In the restaurant with its own bakery, you'll taste original food from local farmers, vegetables and meat roasted at temperatures of up to 300°C on the Josper Grill, considered the Ferrari of grills. The smoke, which can be regulated in various ways, plays a big role and takes the taste of meat and vegetables to a whole new dimension. The menu is rather more concise, but all the more dynamic. Meat lovers as well as vegetarians and vegans will enjoy it! Eatery & Bakery follows the tradition of the historic building - a former military bakery and creates its own bakery range. You can take home homemade wheat and sourdough bread, focaccia, ciabatta or sweet treats. The restaurant complements the Long Story Short Hostel & Café menu, which has been acclaimed by global media such as the UK`s The Guardian or The New York Times. |
