The Holy Trinity Column in Horní náměstí (Upper Square), a monumental Baroque sculpture that was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 2000, is undoubtedly the most famous monument in Olomouc.
The column is 35 m high and represents the highest sculpture in the Czech Republic. It is decorated with more than forty statues and hides a small chapel decorated with frescoes. The author of the column, Václav Render, died during its construction and only managed to build the first floor. In accordance with his will, all the property he left after his death was donated to the completion of the column. Even Empress Maria Theresa attended the consecration of the column in 1754.
