Where to get a drink?

Where to get a drink?

We've picked out a few places for you to enjoy a well-deserved drink after a long day! It doesn't matter if you're into beer, wine, mixers, or quality spirits... there's no lack of either one of these in Olomouc!

Tips for wine lovers

WINE CELLAR U ZLATÉHO BERÁNKA

The wine cellar on University Street in the city center is simply our favourite. You can get a bottle of quality wine here for a reasonable price. We are not only talking about wines from Moravia but also from different parts of the world (France, Bulgaria, Chile...). You can rent a chessboard or play cards and enjoy good old pre-smartphone fun. And if you get hungry after a few drinks, ask for a cheese board or homemade patés with spelt bread.

If you want to take your wine tasting up a level, arrange a guided tasting with the owner (Mrs. Jana Šubová: SubovaJ@seznam.cz). We can highly recommend pairing the wine with Troubelice chocolate, which is made from the best Ecuadorian beans in a family-run chocolate factory just outside Uničov.

Mrs. Šubová regularly invites (not only) Moravian winemakers to Olomouc for the Olomouc Wine Festival (May and October) and St. Martin's Day Olomouc (November). So come to Dolní náměstí on one of the dates, pick up a glass and taste, savour, and have fun...

NA BŘEHU RHONY

The wine bar, which breathes the French atmosphere, is easy to find on the Lower Square - by the crowd of people standing outside having fun, sitting on the stairs and at the tables and holding a glass of wine.  You might get lucky and stumble across a free table inside or outside, but you'd better call ahead and make a reservation.

Why is the wine bar so popular? Besides the stylish interior, the self-service system is what draws the crowds here. You simply take a glass, paper, and pencil, choose the wine you want to taste, make a line for each deciliter, and taste as you please. All the wines are French, of course, and you can order from a large selection of bottled wines in addition to the self-drinking ones. The wait staff makes sure you have a carafe of water on your table at all times. You can also choose from plenty of appetizers to go with your wine: cheese boards, luxurious homemade bread, olive tapenades, savory quiche, or perhaps roasted almonds.

Tips for beer enthusiasts

MORGAN'S RESTAURANT

Head to Morgan's restaurant in case you are craving tank beer. This place is a winner of the Brewers Star award for best care of draft beer.

Grab a bite to go with your beer - like the Olomouc tvarůžky cheese tartare - or go straight for a full dinner. The menu includes Czech cuisine specialties as well as steaks, burgers, and salads. The restaurant is right in the city center, just a few steps from the Holy Trinity Column (UNESCO). The modern interior combines wood, leather, and metal and blends perfectly with the historical brick building of the so-called water barracks.

THE BLACK STUFF IRISH PUB & WHISKY BAR

The Black Stuff was ranked 3rd Best Beer Bar in the 2014 CzechBar Awards and was named Best Pub in the country in 2015. As the name suggests, the bar's theme is inspired by Irish pubs and the so-called old-fashioned style, which combines wood, burnt brick, and natural stone.

On tap, you will find 8 regulars (Guinness, Magners, London Pride, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, Heineken Extra Cold, and Paulaner) and 2 specials from Czech and Moravian breweries. In addition, you can choose from bottled beer specialties, an incredible variety of whisk(e)ys (Irish, Scottish single malts, American whiskeys, and bourbons or the increasingly popular Japanese whisky), rums, gins, and other fine spirits. Not dizzy from all the alcohol yet? Then try one of the fancy cocktails, signature drinks, or a range of Moravian and international wines, champagnes, and sparkling wines. You won't leave here sober...

BERNARD BAR

Right on the Upper Square, you'll come across this pleasant beer bar with four Bernard regular brews and a plum lemonade on tap, and three specials in a glass.

You can also choose from traditional appetizers that just go so well with beer: pickled cheese, pickled sausage, cheesecake spread, sausages, burgers, or even spicy wings.

OLODVOREK

For local beer Chomout and small cozy concerts, head to the unique space on the Lower Square in the city center.

It's relaxed, friendly, and let's be honest - a bit hipster. Simon, the man behind the Morava River Cruises and Olomouc Beer Bike project discovered this backyard, gave it a shot and it worked. The owner plans to renovate the house with the yard. But until that happens, the fun, music, and good drinks will keep flowing. Of course, the only condition for its successful operation is that it closes promptly at 10:00 p.m. so that its sole occupant can get some sleep. After that, all you have to do is to move a few meters further - to the Meat Shops or to Zahrada Bar, which is in a similar vein to Olodvorek.

SPECIAL TIP! OLOŠLAP

Join a group or reserve the mobile beer bar for yourself! As standard, you'll be treated to an hour-long ride around the best tourist spots while sipping on local Chomout beer. Ladies especially will appreciate being able to pedal hard and burn beer calories while sipping it. Gentlemen, don't worry, you don't have to pedal, as Ološlap has a pretty powerful motorbike and can pull 10 people on the straight. If you opt for a private ride, you might also take the Beer Tour, which will take you through the best beer pubs in the city centre.

Cocktails & fine spirits

Don't miss an evening stroll through the so-called Meat Shops, which are the hub of Olomouc's nightlife. When you enter through the entrance from Dolní náměstí, bars with front gardens stretch on both sides to the end of the arcade. You don't have to worry about it even in winter, the arcade is roofed, there are heaters and almost every bar will lend you blankets. Then, when you exit on the other side of the arcade, you'll find yourself on Coal Street, where the fun can go on - like the Great Gatsby Bar, which offers hookah in addition to plenty of drinks, or the retro bar Cocktails & Dreams, which brings back the feel of 1950s America. And for hookah enthusiasts, we have one more tip: Cloud City Bar & Sisha on Denisova Street.
