| The Pilávka Fairy
Walking through the woods near the village of Hvozd, the source of the Pilavka River, you can meet a fossil fairy. The statue is the work of a local teacher who invented a colourful legend... Once upon a time... The most beautiful of the local fairies, Pilávka, was tasked to look after the local springs and wells. But the vain forest maiden found such work boring, as she would have preferred to dance in the forest all day and comb her long golden hair. So she promised the boys who were walking through the forest back to the village, that whoever would dig a well for her in the forest, and then find a ring in it, would become her wife. The boys, intoxicated by Pilávka's beauty, dug the well, but of course did not find the ring. Because Pilávka broke the laws of the forest, failed to do her duty, and took advantage of human naivety by means of trickery, the witch, the mistress of the forest, punished her and turned her into stone. She can only be freed from the curse on Midsummer Night by a young man who finds the ring and puts it on the fairy's finger.
