Somewhat Spooky TovačovThe surroundings of Tovačov are famous for its lakes and ponds. And where can you find the best view? Well, from the 96 m high castle tower! The legend says Tovačov Chateau was founded in the 11th century as a refuge for hunters, and its Renaissance transformation began in the 14th century. It is shrouded in the mysterious legend of the Black Lady, who sometimes appears in the Black Garden looking for her children. The garden is a location of former chateau cemetery, and it hides an as-of-yet unexplored crypt at a depth of around 8 meters. The Black Lady is said to be Dona Maxmiliana Manriquez de Lara, the wife of the castle's former lord, Vratislav of Pernštejn, who brought the Infant Jesus of Prague with her to Bohemia. The marriage is said to have produced 22 children, only 7 of whom survived to adulthood. Take a walk through the castle interiors with a guide, they may add some other spooky legends for good measure. Or climb the lookout tower yourself and pick a spot for your walk. The nature trail with 7 stops called "In the Footsteps of the Battle of Tovačov 1866" is also accessible with a stroller. It starts at the castle, and the northern route towards Věrovany takes you to the places where the heaviest battles of the Prusso-Austrian War took place. The two stops in Tovačov refer to the fighting in the town itself. It is no surprise if the lakes and ponds of Tovačov tempt you to take a summer dip. But be careful. There is a strict ban on swimming in most water bodies because they serve as a source of drinking water or are still being mined for gravel. The only exception where you can swim without worry or a threat of a fine is Lake III Annín. Do you dare to descend into the Dreaded Dungeon? The torture chamber in the museum in Kojetín is the work of local enthusiasts who have worked hard to prepare the exhibition. The aim is not to scare you to death but to enjoy pleasant if slightly hair-raising entertainment. Tovačov lies on an intersection of 2 important cycling trails. So put on your helmets and pedal along either the Moravian Trail to Olomouc or along the Bečva Cycle Path through Přerov, past Helfštýn Castle to Hranice! |
