5 reasons to fall in love with Olomouc

5 reasons to fall in love with Olomouc

We have absolutely bulletproof arguments for you why you should not hesitate, pack your suitcase right away and head towards Olomouc!

1. Little Prague - UNESCO's The Holy Trinity Column, the astronomical clock (bigger than in Prague), monuments everywhere you look, romantic streets and corners, parks and gardens, lots of entertainment, and good food and drink. "Unlike Prague, there are still relatively few tourists. Olomouc, with 100,000 permanent residents and 21,000 university students, offers a small-scale taste of Prague's history and architecture, as well as plenty of fun in a student town and great places to eat and drink," Evan Rail for The New York Times.

It's no coincidence that Olomouc is nicknamed "Little Prague." The city is a great alternative for anyone fed up with tourist crowds, exorbitant prices, and tourist traps. The Upper and Lower Squares and the narrow streets around St. Michael's Church and the Chapel of St. John Sarkander are definitely worth a look and an Insta photo. You definitely shouldn't miss St. Wenceslas Cathedral and the neighboring Archdiocesan Museum with its unique art exhibit. Where jewels, sculptures, and paintings are now on display, young Mozart or King Wenceslas III once walked.

If you're interested in more than just photos, pop into the information center in the town hall arcade on the Upper Square and arrange a guided tour of the town, or simply rent an audio guide. You can also experience a slightly different tour of the city n aboard the boat Marie Therese or from the Ološlap - a mobile beer bar. www.plavbyolomouc.cz

2. Heaven on your palate - You may expect to taste mainly tvarůžky and beer in Olomouc. Well, sure... but that's far from everything! Get ready for a stylish brunch, Michelin-starred chef's tastes, and fine dining.

3. For backpackers and connoisseurs alike - Planning to backpack in Olomouc on a budget? Then book a bed at Long Story Short - one of the best hostels in the world (at least the Guardian claimed so). For a few bucks, you can get plenty of bang. Stylish shared rooms, a friendly atmosphere, and a cool Cooking Bar Café with a terrace that's packed with DJs and people from all over the world in the summer. Are you more defined by your sizeable luggage and over-the-top requirements? In that case, google NH Collection Olomouc Congress, Herbarium Boutique Hotel, Theatre Hotel, or perhaps Theresian Hotel & Spa (more at Moravia for you).

4. Vibrant nightlife - When you're strolling through the city in the evening, head to the bar-lined arcade called Masné krámy (entrance from Dolní náměstí and Uhelná Street). It's aptly called Stodolní of Olomouc. Beer, wine, shots, colorful cocktails, and hookahs - lots of bars under one roof. More alcohol tips on the page Where to get a drink.

5. Fun for everyone - Whether you're a family with kids, a cyclist, a nerd, a student, a couple in love, an influencer, or enjoying retirement, you won't get bored in Olomouc. Well, we can guarantee about 3 days, after those you might want to go somewhere nearby...(tips for trips for families with children)
