Mohelnice full of flavours and experiences

A trip to Mohelnice with children is a great opportunity to become curious archaeologists for a while, to experience adventures on the water, to meet the Fire Man in a fairy-tale castle, and to taste the very best of Central Moravia!

In Mohelnice, hold your children by the hand and descend into the cellars of the local museum. This is not a guide on how to punish the kids... quite the opposite! In the interactive prehistoric playroom, you can become archaeologists, try out prehistoric techniques for crushing grain and drilling stone, and try to solve various quizzes and crossword puzzles together.

Get on your bikes and ride from Mohelnice along the Moravian Trail to Villa Háj in Třeština, a popular excursion spot and a boating station. You can stop here for a good meal made from local ingredients, spend the night in the guesthouse or at the campsite, try paddleboarding on a quiet, dammed section of the river, or start your paddling adventure down the Morava River. All equipment, boats, and rafts can be rented and brought here by IN LIFE. Enjoy a family day cruise or leisurely float the 47 km of the river all the way to Olomouc!

With your feet on the pedals, continue further 8 km from Třeština to our Provence of Haná - Lavender Farm in Bezděkov. The owners will be happy to show you around. To experience the fields at the height of their bloom, plan a trip here between late June to mid-July. And the very best time is in July when the Lavender Festival takes place! You can buy fragrant products at the Lavender Shop in Bezděkov or the Lavender Bistro in neighboring Úsov. Have a lavender ice cream or a whole-tasting menu and take a tour of the Úsov castle with the collection of exotic trophies from expeditions to Africa as well as medieval and hunting weapons, and a forestry exhibition.

Don't want to move on a hot summer day? Then hurry to the water! Just drive out of Mohelnice and choose whether you want to spend the day on the shores of the Mohelnický Bagr Sandpit or Moravičany Lake.

You may have heard of Olomouc tvarůžky or even tasted them. Did you know that they are not actually made in Olomouc, but in Loštice, located 4 km from Mohelnice? If you are interested in the history and production process of this famous (and healthy) cheese, visit the Olomoucké tvarůžky Museum in the centre of Loštice. And just around the corner, you can delight your palate with original savoury desserts from the Tvarůžková pastry shop.

Do you remember the illustrations from The Grandmother of Božena Němcová? Take your children to the Adolf Kaspar Memorial and show them the illustrations you may have seen in the books when you were little. Then put on your swimsuit and enjoy the rest of the day at the Loštice swimming pool.

Can't get enough of classic Czech fairy tales? Then your favorite might be the one about Princess Jasněnka and the Flying Shoemaker. The place where it was filmed is not far away! Bouzov Castle, which has starred in many other Czech and foreign fairy tales and films, can be reached on foot or by bike from Loštice along the eight-kilometer-long Liška Bystrouška Nature Trail. The castle is almost a mandatory stop for everyone. Pick one of the tours, including a special children's route with the Firebird. For cool, slightly adrenaline-fuelled fun, enjoy the mini-carts in the neighboring Relax Park Bouzov.

And one more tip for cooling down. It's not swimming this time. Head to the Javoříčko Caves, which are guaranteed to be among the most beautiful in the country. You can also reach the caves on foot along the six-kilometer-long Bouzov Nature Trail.
