Prostějov Town Hall is a national cultural monument!

The government approved 14 town halls as national cultural monuments - the Lesser Town Hall in Prague, the old town halls in Brno and Prachatice, the new town halls in Ostrava, Jablonec nad Nisou and Prostějov, the town halls in Liberec, Plzeň, Kadan, Litoměřice, Hostinné, Havlíčkův Brod, Znojmo and Kyjov.

These town halls were inscribed on the list of national cultural monuments thanks to their exceptional architectural, urbanistic and art historical value. In addition, the monument in Poděbrady, the castle and chateau in Poběžovice and two historic trams were also approved as national monuments.

"I am sincerely happy that our new town hall has been included in the list of national cultural monuments because it really belongs there. Every visitor I welcome to the historic premises expresses a clear admiration for the architecture and decoration of our town hall. There is a huge interest in guided tours of the interiors, and I myself also occasionally give guided tours, not only during the tourist season. Recently there were thirty visitors from Rapotín, in short, the town hall is well liked. Both ordinary visitors and architecture experts like it. Next yearwe will commemorate the 110th anniversary of the opening of the new Prostějov Town Hall and I think that its inclusion in the list of national cultural monuments is a nice gift for this anniversary," says the mayor of the town František Jura.

"I have been communicating with the Minister of Culture Martin Baxa about the Prostějov Town Hall being declared a national cultural monument and I am extremely pleased that the government has included our town hall on this prestigious list. I also see it as a recognition of the legacy of our ancestors who built this town hall in the past. Our beautiful town hall is not only a landmark and symbol of the town, but also a frequent tourist destination. For us, being listed as a National Historic Landmark means that we have another jewel alongside the National House that has received national recognition. Personally, I believe it can pay off for us, because just as someone travels to Michelin-starred restaurants, another visits a historic "major league", to use the city's favourite sporting terminology. National cultural monuments are just such a first league," added 1st Deputy Mayor Milada Sokolová.
